Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – There is a sense of pride and emotion when seeing children playing traditional musical instruments and arts, namely gamelan and karawitan. Seeing the onslaught of modern music, it turns out that there are still young generations who want to play and preserve traditional Javanese musical instruments and arts.

This was photographed when students of SMKN 2 Malang held gamelan and karawitan practice at the Malang Arts Council (DKM) Building. Jl. Simpang Mojopahit No.3 Malang, Tuesday (24/10).
It turned out that the students were taking part in extracurricular activities guided by their teachers. We could faintly hear them singing Javanese songs accompanied by serene gamelan music.
Regional Language Teacher of SMKN 2 Malang, Javian Inggit, S.Pd revealed that the training at DKM Malang City was a preparation for the school competitions held on October 26, 2017. Although the level was still a school-level competition, the students in the gamelan extracurricular activities were prepared very seriously.
"We deliberately brought the children to practice at DKM so that they can concentrate and focus more, so that on the day of the event they can perform optimally," explained Javian, Tuesday (24/10).
He added that serious preparation with perseverance in practicing is expected to improve the abilities of the students. According to him, only by always practicing diligently will the abilities of the gamelan art members continue to be honed.
In addition to performing at school events, Javian said the SMKN 2 Malang City gamelan arts team also often performs at various events. Among them is the National SMK LKS some time ago at the Cakrawala Building, Malang State University (UM).
Javian said that through this extracurricular activity, we can bring closer the art of gamelan and karawitan, which are part of Indonesia's cultural heritage, so that they are better known, loved, and preserved.
On the stage on October 26, 2017, the SMKN 2 Malang City gamelan team will also appear to accompany various competition performances. (cah/yon)
