APPEAL TO CLEAN UP GARBAGE ON NEW YEAR'S EVE CELEBRATIONS
2018
- Background
New Year's Eve celebrations often leave behind large amounts of waste and scattered trash. This is partly due to shifts in people's consumption patterns and a reflection of people's behavior towards clean living.
In this regard, we urge that the 2018 New Year's Eve celebrations be carried out in a lively manner but with attention to environmental cleanliness, so that we can realize New Year's Eve as... “less waste event”, and realizing a waste-free Indonesia by 2025 in accordance with the mandate of Presidential Regulation No. 97 of 2017 concerning national policies and strategies for managing household waste and household-like waste. - Scope
New Year's Eve trash cleaning activities are carried out by all levels of society together with the government.
Activities are carried out through:
– Community movement “New Year's Eve clean up trash”
– Dissemination of information on “New Year’s Eve clean up trash through print/electronic media and social media”
– Provision of waste management facilities and infrastructure - Basic
1. Law No. 18 of 2008 concerning Waste Management;
2. Government Regulation No. 81 of 2012 concerning Management of Household Waste and Household-Similar Waste;
3. Presidential Regulation No. 97 of 2017 concerning National Policy and Strategy for Household Waste Management and Household-Similar Waste. - Implementation Guidelines
Planning for waste reduction and handling at the 2018 New Year's Eve celebrations can refer to the Waste Management Guidelines for Events (Less Waste Event Guideline) which can be downloaded on the page: data.sipsn.org/?q=regulation
