Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Opened with a Mask Dance telling the story of Dewi Sekartaji and Panji Asmorobangun, the 'National Safari Movement for Cultivating a Love of Reading in Provinces and Districts/Cities 2018' activity was impressive.

The activity held by the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia in collaboration with the Malang City Government at the Gajayana Arts Building, Malang City, Tuesday (27/2) was attended by students, teachers and all elements of the Malang City community.
Acting Head of the Malang City Regional Library and Archives Service Drs. Abdul Malik, M.Pd said the activity was held to provide education and increase the love of reading culture among students.
"So far, the Malang City Library and Archives Service has always served the community wholeheartedly, starting from Monday to the following Monday without a holiday. This shows that the Malang City Library is very serious about trying to improve the reading culture of Malang City residents," explained Malik, Tuesday (27/2).
In addition to the comfortable location and atmosphere, friendly staff, various supporting facilities, the Library also always adds to its collection of the latest books.
The number of visits to the library is also very high, reaching 700 visitors per day on Monday-Friday, and on Saturday-Sunday the number of visits can reach 1.000 visitors.
The book collection in the Malang City Library currently reaches 175.000, and currently budgets are being made for the addition of the latest book collections.
Meanwhile Head of the Directorate of Library Material Deposits of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia, Dra Lucia Damayanti, M.Hum acknowledged that the interest in reading among Indonesian people is still low. He said that Indonesian people still tend to prefer spoken language over reading.
"We hope that through forums like the one in Malang City, we can boost the reading interest of the community, and hopefully in the future the reading interest of the Indonesian people can be even higher," Lucia hoped.
The activity, which was also attended by Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives Ridwan Hisyam, took the theme 'Implementation of the Mental Revolution Through Knowledge Mobilization in Order to Increase the Community Literacy Index'. (cah/yon)
