Jakarta, April 4, 2018 – The Ministry of Tourism has again issued a new strategy by offering 100 digital destinations and nomadic tourism in order to realize the target of 17 million foreign tourists (wisman) and 275 million domestic tourists (wisnus) in 2018. Minister of Tourism (Menpar) Arief Yahya stated that the choice of digital destinations is the result of the demands of the digital era where today's tourists, who are dominated by the millennial generation, tend to prefer visiting destinations that provide experiences (experience). "We want to take advantage of the opportunity to attract domestic tourists, by creating 100 digital destinations spread across 34 provinces in Indonesia. The concept of this digital destination refers to creative destinations, has photogenic spots to be uploaded on social media, and viral on social media," explained the Minister of Tourism in Jakarta (02/04).
Based on the results of a worldwide survey released by Everbrite-Harris Poll, 2014 proved that the millennial generation prefers to spend their money to gain experiences (experience) compared to goods (material goods). Siti Nurbaya Market in Padang, Mangrove Market in Batam, Baba Boentjit Market in Palembang, Tahura Market in Lampung, Karetan Market in Kendal, Kaki Langit Market in Yogyakarta, Pancingan Market in Lombok, Kaulinan Market in Banten, and Semarangan Market in Semarang are a series of new tourist destinations based on the people's economy that have been established by Genpi. To realize the development of 100 digital destinations, the Ministry of Tourism has collaborated with the Regional Government in Indonesia, both at the Provincial Government, City Government, and Regency Government levels to build basic infrastructure such as roads, water, electricity, WiFi connections, waste locations, and toilets. The basic infrastructure aims to make it easier for domestic tourists to enjoy their visit while traveling to a digital destination.
Meanwhile, in order to attract 17 million foreign tourist visits in 2018, the Ministry of Tourism is also presenting a new tourism strategy called nomadic tourism or more commonly known as adventure tourism. This adventure tourism emerged as a solution to overcome the limitations of the 3A elements; attractions, amenities and accessibility.
This concept of wanderlust tourism will also be realized by building amenities/accommodation that can be moved around, and come in various forms, such as glamp camp, home pod, or caravan. Meanwhile, to support the accessibility of this adventure tourism, it is realized by sea plane, which will bring foreign tourists from one island to another in Indonesia. Furthermore, the new concept of wanderlust tourism will be implemented in 10 Priority Tourism Destinations or 10 New Bali destinations.
