National Consumer Day, Minister of Trade Launches National Consumer Protection Portal

Jakarta, April 24, 2018 – Marking the peak of the National Consumer Day (Harkonas) commemoration, Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita launched the National Consumer Protection Portal today, Wednesday (24/4) in Pangkal Pinang City, Bangka Belitung Islands Province. This national portal can be accessed at www.konsumen-indonesia.go.id. On this occasion, the Minister of Trade was accompanied by the Governor of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province Erzaldi Rosman Djohan.

This portal was built on the synergy of the Directorate General of Consumer Protection and Trade Order of the Ministry of Trade with 9 other Ministries/Institutions, namely BPOM, Ministry of PU-PERA, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bank Indonesia, and the Financial Services Authority. This system can be accessed through one door so that it can make it easier for consumers to report problems, complaints, or conduct consultations.

""The launch of the National Consumer Protection Portal is intended to increase consumer empowerment, as well as realize synergistic and integrated consumer protection for ministries/institutions and related stakeholders in accordance with the direction of government development policies and strategies," said the Minister of Trade.

According to the Minister of Trade, this national portal is based on Presidential Regulation Number 50 of 2017 concerning the National Strategy for Consumer Protection (Stranas-PK). The scope of Stranas-PK includes three pillars, namely increasing the role of government, increasing consumer empowerment, and increasing business compliance by involving ministries/institutions in related sectors.

"With this national portal, it is hoped that there will be an integrated media available for consumers to obtain information and submit complaints related to consumer protection spread across various sectors," he added.

The sectors that are the priority of Stranas-PK are medicine and food; financial services (banking, insurance, financing); transportation services; electricity and household gas; telecommunications services (basic telephone services and internet access); health services; e-commerce; housing; electronics, telematics, and motor vehicles.

Harkonas commemoration was established based on Presidential Decree Number 13 of 2012 concerning National Consumer Day. This year's commemoration takes the theme "Smart Consumers in the Digital Economy Era". This is in line with the increasing digital transactions so that consumers must maintain their role as "kings" in buying and for that must be smarter.

"The government, in accordance with its authority, is also committed to carrying out its obligations to create policies that protect consumers and provide facilities to improve the capabilities and comfort of consumers, who are in fact the Indonesian people as a whole, without exception," said the Minister of Trade.

Through the commemoration of Harkonas which was held for three days, namely on 22-24 April 2018, the Minister of Trade hopes that the public will increasingly understand and be aware of their rights as consumers and will be more determined to become smart consumers.

Bangka Belitung Province was chosen as the center of the Harkonas commemoration because this province was named as one of the Provinces Concerned with Consumer Protection in 2016. Several criteria for the crowning were the establishment of a unit that handles consumer protection in the Regional Government, a commitment to provide APBD funds to educate consumers and make business actors responsible, ownership of an active Consumer Dispute Resolution Agency (BPSK), having an Orderly Measurement Market, and having Civil Servant Investigators (PPNS).

Before launching the National Consumer Protection Portal, the Minister of Trade gave an award to the Provincial Government of Consumer Protection. In addition, the Minister of Trade also gave awards to four community leaders who care about consumer protection. The awarding of this award is a form of government appreciation for the participation of community members who help socialize consumer protection and support the formation of smart consumer awareness.

Youth Creativity at Multiproduct Exhibition

One of the activities held to commemorate Harkonas is the Multiproduct Exhibition. At the exhibition held by the Bangka Belitung Islands Provincial Government, various creative and innovative products from the work of Indonesian youth are displayed with several products.

The Minister of Trade said that through this Multiproduct Exhibition, it is hoped that it can inspire young people in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province to continue to be creative. Today's products of the nation's children are increasingly varied and have a quality that is no less competitive than similar imported products. For that, we must be proud to use domestic products.

The Multiproduct Exhibition was attended by 43 participants from several cities in Indonesia, such as Bandung, Temanggung, Yogyakarta, Salatiga, Jambi, and Jakarta. The products exhibited included batik, woven fabrics, jewelry, fashion and accessories, furniture and home decor, musical and sports equipment, and toys.
