Ahead of Regional Elections and Ramadan, Bakesbangpol Holds FGD

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The National Unity and Politics Agency (Bakesbangpol) of Malang City held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) at the Regent Hotel, Friday (4/5) with the theme 'The Role of Toga, Tomas in Countering the Use of SARA Issues and Hoax News in the Malang City Regional Election and Welcoming the Holy Month of Ramadan' by inviting various elements of society.

Regional Secretary of Malang City, Drs. Wasto, SH, MH invited all elements to always be vigilant against the spread of racial issues and hoax news.

Regional Secretary of Malang City Drs. Wasto, SH, MH said that to suppress the spread of racial issues and hoax news, the role of all levels is needed, especially the government, law enforcement officers and religious figures, as well as the role of the community.

The tranquility and solemnity of Muslims while carrying out the fasting worship later is also a special concern of Bakesbangpol Malang City. "The month of Ramadan which is the holy month for Muslims must be free from various threats and disturbances," he said.

Likewise, ahead of the implementation of the Simultaneous Regional Elections, Wasto invited all elements of society to participate in creating a peaceful atmosphere. He appealed to community leaders, religious leaders, youth and the community in general to be smarter and more selective in responding to various situations.

"The public should not be easily provoked and provoked by irresponsible parties, because it will eventually cause division. Likewise in social media, every information must be filtered before being disseminated," said Wasto.

He further said, based on national data, internet users in Indonesia reached 132,7 million people. and child users aged 10 to 24 years old were 18,4 percent. "From this data, there is a large potential for hoax news, hate speech, and SARA issues to emerge. Therefore, religious and community leaders must be able to suppress and prevent it, but on the other hand, law enforcement officers must act firmly," continued the man who was once the Head of the Malang City Barenlitbang.

"Through this FGD, it is expected that various elements of society can carry out their functions well, so that a peaceful atmosphere is created, especially ahead of the month of Ramadan and the implementation of the Simultaneous Regional Elections this year," Wasto hoped. (say/yon)
