2018 Asian Games; Public Curious About Sambo Martial Arts

Jakarta (malangkota.go.id) – The inclusion of the Sambo martial arts branch in the 2018 Asian Games has made the public curious about what Sambo is like and how it is played and what the competition system is like.

The public's enthusiasm to support Indonesian sambo athletes and curiosity about this martial arts competition is very high.

Although the achievements of the Indonesian Sambo martial arts athletes were not optimal until the final round, the public still came to continue to provide support on the sidelines of the arena.

Indonesia…!!! Indonesia..!!! Indonesia..!!!, that was the roar of high-pitched voices coloring every stand of the Sambo match arena held at the Jakarta Convention Center, Saturday (01/09). Not only that, some spectators also unfurled the Red and White flag while giving their support.

The fullness of each stand of the Sambo martial arts arena is inseparable from the enthusiasm and curiosity of this type of martial arts when it was competed in the Asian Games. Although initially they did not know and what this sport was like, the enthusiasm for Indonesian athletes was very high.

Not only adults, children and students also crowded every seat of the audience. One of the audience, Vini Alif Damara admitted, before coming to the match arena, he had surfed the internet to find out what Sambo martial arts is and where it comes from.

However, he said, if you only know from the internet and do not watch or come directly to the location of the Russian martial arts competition, it does not feel right, because by coming to the competition arena you can also give encouragement and support to the Indonesian Sambo athletes.

Another spectator, Safina Umar, said that even though Indonesia's achievements in this sport were not good, at least as Indonesian citizens and hosts they had done something useful.

"This championship is also international level, and who knows when Indonesia can host it again. So it would be a shame if we don't take advantage of this moment," added the woman in the hijab. (say/yon)
