Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji revealed that currently the level of fish consumption by the people of Malang City is still very low. It is recorded at only 28 percent per year from the ideal provision of at least 70 percent per year. That is why he invited the people of Malang City to enjoy eating fish.
"The data shows that we are still behind Japan in terms of fish consumption, which has reached 75 percent per year, even though our country is a maritime country," said Sutiaji, Sunday (14/10).
Sutiaji hopes that in the future existing programs to increase fish consumption in Malang City can continue to be implemented well. If previously only on Fridays, people were encouraged to eat fish, he hopes that in the future it can be done three times a week.
"The role of mothers is very important for the success of this program to enjoy eating fish. Therefore, while there is the Chairperson of the Malang City PKK this morning, I leave a message for the Malang City PKK to also participate in encouraging the implementation of this program," he said.
The Malang City Government will continue to ensure the availability of fish supplies, both freshwater fish and saltwater fish for the people of Malang City. The supply of freshwater fish will be monitored through the Malang City Pokdakan, while the supply of saltwater fish will be sought through an MoU with the Malang Regency Government which has a sea area so that the flow of fish to Malang City can run clearly and measurably.
"I hope that in the next five years, the level of fish consumption by Malang City residents will increase two-fold from the current data," Sutiaji hopes.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Malang City Agriculture and Food Security Service, Sri Winarni, SH, said that the Malang City Fish Supermarket provides frozen fish. (frozen) and processed fish products, including boneless milkfish, various shrimp, squid, octopus, soft shell crab, export quality crab, dori fish fillet, patin, tuna, and many more, as well as dry processed fish products such as fish floss, fish sticks, fish crackers, etc.
"This aims to meet the fish consumption needs of the people of Malang City who are busy being able to process fish practically," said Sri Winarni.
Various efforts mentioned by Sri Winarni will be made to increase fish consumption in Malang City. One of them is through a campaign to enjoy eating fish, holding BAZURI (Friday Morning Fish Bazaar) which is held every Friday in the yard of the Fish Supermarket which in its development is held on Friday-Saturday-Sunday, Fish Culinary Promotion in the form of culinary products from fishery commodities, all members of Pokdakan and Poklahsar are conditioned to actively participate at all times in campaigning for eating fish in every activity they participate in.
Including socializing it through electronic media and cyberspace, holding the election of the Prince and Princess of Food Ambassadors and the Prince and Princess of Fish Lovers, publishing comics with the theme of Fish Lovers and requests for counseling on independent fish processing by various community groups.
