Malang City Participates in World Food Day Commemoration

South Kalimantan (malangkota.go.id) –  The peak of the World Food Day commemoration was centered in Banjarbaru Regency and Barito Kuala Regency, South Kalimantan, with the theme 'Optimizing the Utilization of Lebak and Tidal Swamp Lands Towards Indonesia as the World's Food Barn 2045'.

The event, which was opened and attended by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman, also invited regional officials.

Also present were the Mayor of Malang Drs. H. Sutiaji, Chairperson of the Malang City PKK TP, Widayati, S.Sos, MM, and the Head of the Malang City Agriculture and Food Security Service Sri Winarni. "Malang City is indeed not an agricultural area, because the land we have is only approximately 1.104 ha. However, the aspect of food security is one of the focuses of Malang City's attention," said Sutiaji on the sidelines of reviewing the Malang City agricultural product booth.

Data from the Department of Agriculture and Food Security of Malang City, he said that for one planting season in Malang City, rice production is 6-7 tons per hectare. The planting coefficient in Malang City is around 2,3 per year.

Urban farming (urban agriculture) and processing of agricultural products is one of the areas entrusted by the Mayor of Malang to the Department of Agriculture and Food Security in collaboration with the Malang City PKK Team.

Head of the Malang City Agriculture and Food Security Service Sri Winarni confirmed that Malang City's processed agricultural products have been included in the IKM and UMKM. Such as catfish dawet, crispy basil, spinach chips, eucalyptus candy, dried kencur candy and others.

Meanwhile, the Head of TP PKK Malang City Widayati said that her party will also collaborate with universities. "We (Malang City) have more than 60 universities. We must utilize them optimally, especially in the field of research. So that there will be more processed food products from agricultural products that are in demand and competitive in the market," she hoped.

The desire and interest of the Head of TP PKK Malang City grew stronger when he saw the many visitors who were interested and also bought processed agricultural products from Malang City who participated in the agricultural product exhibition throughout Indonesia. (say/yon)
