This step is an effort by the Malang City Government to regulate the existence of modern markets which are increasingly mushrooming and to protect the existence of traditional markets to micro traders and/or MSME actors.

The proliferation of modern markets has always been a topic of discussion and a problem in almost every region, including Malang City. In addition to being able to shift the existence of small traders and the existence of traditional markets, it is also suspected that the existence of modern markets is often in the spotlight from the legal side.

The OPDs that participated in this inspection were the Malang City Satpol PP, the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service Agency (DPMPTSP) and the Malang City Regional Tax Service Agency (BP2D).

Sutiaji said that the establishment permit, the distance between modern markets and traditional markets is one of the focuses of this inspection. "In this context, the Malang City Government does not prohibit the existence of modern markets, as long as they comply with the applicable regulations and no parties feel disadvantaged," he said.

The bespectacled man explained, just as the distance between modern markets and traditional markets is at least 500 meters, and the existence of the modern market is not a problem for the community. From the results of this inspection, there is one modern market that must be stopped operating immediately because it does not have an operating permit.

Of the hundreds of modern markets, according to Sutiaji, there are currently at least 43 modern markets that do not have complete legality so that they will be regulated later. "This effort is one way for the Malang City Government to protect the existence of small traders and traditional markets so that they are not negatively impacted and can continue to exist," he concluded.
