Cooperatives Should Not Only Be Concerned With Savings and Loans

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – In order to achieve healthy and quality cooperatives, the Malang City Cooperatives and Micro Enterprises Service held a Health Assessment Management Workshop for Savings and Loan Units (USP)/Savings and Loan Cooperatives (KSP) at the Regent's Park Hotel, Monday (12/11).

The Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, gave a speech and opened the event.

The Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, was present and opened the event. In his speech, Sutiaji advised that cooperatives in Malang City should not only focus on managing savings and loans, but must have business units in order to develop.

Cooperatives must also be able to free the people of Malang City from the clutches of loan sharks that still exist. Even loan sharks have disguised themselves as cooperatives when in fact they are very detrimental to the community.

"Cooperatives as the foundation of the community economy must be strengthened, this is in line with our program which currently focuses on how the community economy can grow through the UMKM improvement scheme and cooperative health," explained Sutiaji. Monday (12/11).

The friendly man said that strengthening cooperatives by expanding into business units as done by several cooperatives was an effort to ensure that the money circulation in the institution was not static.

"The flow of money in this cooperative is from and for members, therefore the cooperative must be healthy. How to do it is by improving administration, increasing SHU, and routinely holding RAT. That way the cooperative can be healthy and develop," explained Sutiaji.

On this occasion, the Mayor of Malang also emphasized that in the future, cooperatives must become successors of MSME activities. This means that every MSME must have a cooperative base as a means of supporting funding so that with this scheme the community's economy will be stronger.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Cooperatives and Micro Business Service of Malang City, Dra. Tri Widyani P., M.Si said that this workshop was held because there were still cooperatives that had not reached a healthy level in Malang City.

Data from the Cooperatives and UM Service states that there are 700 cooperatives in Malang City and 50 percent of them are in the active category, while only dozens are in the healthy category.

"We have to work hard on this. The hope is that the cooperative will be healthy if its administrators and supervisors are certified, and currently only a few cooperatives have that," said Yani, Tri Widyani's nickname.

He added that various efforts continue to be made by his party so that cooperative efforts can be healthy and have business units and are able to develop assets. One that is now used as an example is the Syaiful Anwar Hospital Cooperative which is considered successful and able to develop business units. (cah/yon)
