Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – Clean politics is the main key to opening the gates of public welfare. This was conveyed by the Deputy Mayor of Malang, Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko when he was a keynote speaker at the event Increasing Public Political Participation in Elections held by the National Unity and Politics Agency (Bakesbangpol) of Malang City at the Savana Hotel Malang, Tuesday (27/11).

In 2019, the big event for the Indonesian nation was the election of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives, the Indonesian Regional Representative Council and the Level I and II Regional People's Representative Councils (DPD RI) as well as the election of the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia.
"Facing such a big event certainly requires maximum preparation, both in terms of infrastructure and the level of public participation in voting," said Bung Edi, the nickname of the Deputy Mayor of Malang.
Malang City has held a democratic party, namely the election of the mayor and deputy mayor, as well as the election of the Governor and Deputy Governor of East Java on June 27, 2018. The two political events, as conveyed by Bung Edi, ran smoothly without any significant disruption.
"We need to realize that differences in politics are a common thing, therefore it is time for us to forget the existing differences and start to unite and synergize in building our beloved Malang City," said Bung Edi.
One of the most fundamental elements and indicators of the success and quality of the implementation of democratic elections is the active involvement of the community in the process of the election stages.
"Public participation in the election moment is not only seen from the high number of voters who are present to use their voting rights at the polling station. But it is measured from the level of public awareness and active involvement in all stages of the election," he explained.
Participation aims to encourage active democratic activities for all election processes. The interests of the focus of participation are indicators of improving the quality of democracy and the political life of the nation. Therefore, political participation of the community, both in formal and extra-formal forms in participating in supervising or monitoring the implementation of the election, should not be underestimated.
"Regarding this, in welcoming the 2019 Election, I hope that all related parties will cooperate, coordinate and synergize in building public political awareness and making the public aware of their political rights and obligations as citizens so that they can minimize the number of golput," hoped Bung Edi.
