Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Surprised, disappointed, or even angry, perhaps these are the feelings that raged and were felt by the officers of the Rapid Reaction Unit of the Public Works and Public Housing Agency (DPUPR) of Malang City every time they took action to carry out normalization.

Malang City PUPR Rapid Reaction Unit normalizes clogged water channels

As seen during activities in the Jalan Raya Langsep area, Thursday morning (29/11), piles of rubbish were seen disrupting the flow of water in the existing channels (drainage).

"It is done almost every day by the team and always finds the results of irresponsible behavior from certain residents who carelessly throw garbage into the water channels. Of course it is natural to feel angry seeing conditions like that," said the Head of DPUPR Malang City, Ir. Hadi Santoso.

According to the man who is familiarly called Soni, the activity is rarely known by the public. They (officers) who are struggling, ignoring resistance to safety, there is determination and commitment to realizing a good city environment.

"In the rainy season like this, our friends are increasingly intensifying normalization operations, and that is a concrete manifestation of the many steps taken to handle (overflowing water onto the streets)," said Soni.

Meanwhile, Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji emphasized the need for strict and deterrent sanctions for individuals who throw garbage into rivers or water channels. "For the common good, once in a while a deterrent effect must be applied to residents," he said.

Mapping data progress there are 26 locations of inundation points in Malang City, and in the handling process covering the areas of Jl. Pulosari, Jl. Jombang, Jl. Jupri, Jl. Bandulan, Jl. Soekarno Hatta Street, MT Haryono Street, Bogor Street, S. Parman Street (Carefour), A. Yani Street (around the flyover), Cengkeh Street, Siguragura Dam Street (in front of Sumbersari Village), LA Sucipto Crossing Street, Kalpataru Street, Vinolia Street, Wonogiri Dam Street, around Jl. Gajayana Intersection.

"Moreover, now that the rainy season has arrived, if the drainage is clogged with garbage, it will trigger flooding. If flooding occurs, who will suffer, and don't always blame the government," Sutiaji stressed. (say/yon)
