Malang City Wins 2018 IKCI Award

Jakarta (malangkota.go.id) – In early 2019, Malang City made an achievement by winning the 2018 Indonesian Smart City Index (IKCI) Award for the Large City Category.

This award was presented by the Deputy General Manager of Kompas, Budiman Tanuredjo to the Mayor of Malang Drs. H. Sutiaji in Jakarta, Wednesday (9/1/2019).

IKCI is a city that is considered successful in implementing the Smart City concept or Smart City. A total of 93 cities in Indonesia were assessed using a series of dimensions and methods.

In order to make the assessment equal, the cities are divided into four categories based on population, namely Metropolitan Cities, Large Cities, Medium Cities, and Small Cities.

This is in accordance with Government Regulation Number 26 of 2008 concerning the National Spatial Planning. For the assessment score ranging from 1 to 100 which finally selected 12 cities with each category determining the rankings I, II and III.

"Cities will be the final destination in human movement. Now there are about 50 percent of the Indonesian population living in urban areas. The development that naturally occurs must be accompanied by competent city management for residents," said Kompas Daily Editor-in-Chief Ninuk Mardiana Pambudy in Jakarta.

Malang City in IKCI 2018 is ranked third in the Large City category after Denpasar City and Surakarta City with a total index score of 60,21 from six indicators, namely environment, economy, government, quality of life, society and mobility.

According to surveys and assessments, the highest score contribution from Malang City is in terms of community dimensions (participation), quality of life and environment.

Regarding this achievement, the Mayor of Malang said that the award received would be a driving force for the City of Malang.

"The goal of a Smart City is both, the city and its people. The government must be able to capture the aspirations of the people and the government must be smart in conveying what the people want," explained Sutiaji. (say/yon)
