Kedungkandang (malangkota.go.id) – Residents of RW 2, Mergosono Village, Malang City, overcome the accumulation of organic waste to become economically valuable by processing it into liquid fertilizer.

In realizing this ideal, residents of RW 2 held training in making liquid fertilizer with environmental activist, Heru Purnomo in the local sub-district, Monday (4/2/2019).
Head of RW 2, Mergosono Village, Malang City, Rubianto admitted that so far it has been difficult to dispose of garbage in the village area. Although non-organic waste has been handled by being sold to the Waste Bank, organic waste is still a problem.
"When the weather is rainy like now, the garbage is often not transported. Trucks that usually transport garbage often cannot move because they sink when they are going to the temporary shelter," said Rubianto.
Coincidentally, he said, there was Heru Purwanto, an environmental activist who wanted to share knowledge and skills in making liquid fertilizer. Through this activity, the mothers of RW 2, Mergosono Village could learn to process kitchen waste into liquid fertilizer.
"If all families in RW 2 do not throw away organic waste from the kitchen, then there will be as many as two carts of organic waste every day that no longer needs to be thrown away," said Rubianto.
Currently, the condition of Supit Urang TPA is getting fuller, he continued, the step of processing organic waste into liquid fertilizer is very important. So that the environment around the residents' houses will also be cleaner and greener because the plants get free fertilizer every day.
Heru Purwanto admitted that he has long been conducting research on the use of household waste to make liquid fertilizer. By using simple tools such as used cans, making liquid organic fertilizer can be done easily by families.
"If making liquid fertilizer can be done by all families in Malang City, in the future Malang City will certainly not be confused about finding a place to dispose of waste when the Supit Urang TPA is no longer able to accommodate it," explained Heru.
He admitted that it is not easy to change the way people think about processing organic waste. However, he is sure that with a patient approach, one day activities like this will be successful and bring many benefits. (cah/ram/yon)
