Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi_red) expressed his appreciation to the Islamic Students Association (HMI) which is considered to have produced many young intellectuals. According to him, HMI cadres also always uphold Islam and Indonesianness.
This was conveyed by President Jokowi when attending the 72nd Anniversary of HMI and the Thanksgiving of Lafran Pane as a National Hero held at the residence of the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the National Assembly of the Alumni Corps of the Indonesian Student Association (KAHMI) Akbar Tandjung, on Jalan Purnawarman, South Jakarta, Tuesday (5/2/2019).
"Earlier, Bang Akbar delivered a speech about Islam and Indonesianness. This is what I have long admired from HMI cadres wherever they are. In addition to producing a great many young intellectuals, regarding Islam and Indonesianness, HMI cadres have always upheld it," said the President.
According to President Jokowi, Indonesia has been blessed by Allah SWT with diverse tribes, religions, customs, traditions, and languages whose unity must be maintained. This wealth is one of the great assets of the Indonesian nation.
"This is our shared responsibility to continue to maintain, care for, and preserve unity and harmony. Because the great assets of this nation are unity, brotherhood, and harmony," he continued.
On this occasion, President Joko Widodo was given a ulos cloth by representatives of the family of national hero Lafran Pane. For information, the founder of HMI 72 years ago was awarded the title of national hero by the President on November 9, 2017.
"There are quite a lot of candidates to be named a national hero. But he is a national hero who is very worthy of us giving him the title," he said.
