Waste Recycling Center in Malang City Inaugurated

Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Until now, the problem of waste handling and management still colors almost every region. However, if the handling and management are done well, then the waste will bring great benefits to the community, such as for compost raw materials and renewable energy sources.

Deputy Mayor of Malang, Sofyan Edi Jarwoko (wearing a hat) with Director General of Waste, Hazardous and Toxic Materials Management (PSLB3) of the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Rosa Vivien Ratnawati, and Other related parties review the waste PDU after its inauguration

The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) is making every effort to utilize and recycle various waste so that it has value. The Indonesia Free of Waste Program is a large framework with many waste recycling centers being built in several regencies and cities, such as in Malang City.

These are some of the things that were conveyed by Director General of Waste, Hazardous and Toxic Materials Management (PSLB3) of the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry Rosa Vivien Ratnawati in Malang City, Thursday (04/04/2019) after inaugurating the Waste Recycling Center (PDU) in the Sukun District area of Malang City.

In this place, Rosa explained that she is able to recycle ten tons of waste per day and the waste to be recycled is previously separated between organic and inorganic waste. "Organic waste will produce compost and inorganic waste is collaborated with a recycling company so that it can bring economic benefits to the community," she added.

With the existence of this recycling center, Rosa hopes that it will also encourage a reduction in waste disposal residue to the landfill by up to 90 percent. Recycling centers like this, he said, will continue to be made by KLHK in several regions according to the commitment of local heads.

In the future, at least 56 regencies/cities will be targeted by the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry to build recycling centers, such as in the Bandung area there will be six points. Tourist destinations determined and developed by the Central Government will also be a priority so that the waste problem in Indonesia can continue to be suppressed.

Meanwhile, Malang Deputy Mayor Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko who at that time also inaugurated the waste PDU in the Sukun District area greatly appreciated what was initiated by the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

"Waste is still a big problem for every region, including Malang City. Therefore, we are making various efforts to overcome and reduce the volume of this waste," he said.

Until now, every day Malang City produces around 600 tons of waste, and this is triggered by various things, such as lifestyle and economic level of the community. "In addition to increasing PDU, the existence of the Malang Waste Bank will also continue to optimize its function, so that this waste problem can be resolved properly," he said. (say/yon)
