On this occasion, the Governor of East Java was accompanied by the Deputy Regent of Malang and the Mayor of Malang. Dinoyo Market was chosen as the destination because this market is included in 25 markets in eight regencies/cities in East Java Province which are references for BPS in monitoring price stability.

From the results of price monitoring in several traditional markets, the prices of eggs, chicken and garlic began to creep up as Ramadan approached. Khofifah said that the phenomenon of price increases for several types of needs is common when welcoming the month of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr and New Year.

"The phenomenon is due to the high demand from the public. On the other hand, this is sometimes not balanced by adequate supply, resulting in price increases," added the woman in the hijab.

According to the Minister of Trade's Regulation, Khofifah explained that garlic is actually not included in the basic food needs, but because of the high demand from restaurants, households and eateries, it has finally become a hot issue in society.

In this regard, the government has decided to import garlic, and it is estimated that it will arrive in East Java on May 10 and is planned to be distributed on May 15.

He said that the East Java Provincial Government will make maximum efforts to ensure that there are no price fluctuations, including for fuel, LPG and electricity which could disturb the public, so that prices remain relatively stable.

The Governor of East Java also asked every regional head to do the same, and if necessary, conduct market operations and immediately synergize to then be followed up with related parties such as Bulog and Pertamina.

Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji also appreciated the visit to Dinoyo Market and his party will follow up on what the Governor of East Java has conveyed. "We will immediately coordinate with related parties such as TPID to respond to the current situation," he said. (say/yon)
