Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – The Creative Economy Agency (BeKraf) has named Malang City as one of the ten nominees for creative cities/regencies. As reported by BeKraf's portal, the ten nominated cities/regencies include Malang City, Palembang City, Majalengka Regency, Semarang City, Rembang Regency, Surakarta City, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, Balikpapan City, Gianyar Regency and Denpasar City.

On June 18, 2019, the final assessment stage will be carried out through a presentation in Jakarta (by the regional head) in front of a team of judges, and four role models of creative districts/cities in Indonesia will be determined.
What is interesting and different compared to other regions, Malang City was nominated in the application and game sub-sector. "This is the first and only one. Most other regions are engaged in the culinary, craft or fashion. Malang City is very specific and contemporary, of course this is a separate point," said Loli Amalia Abdullah, PMK3I Team Deputy of Infrastructure BeKraf during a meeting with four creative economy actors (creative communities, OPD, academics and business actors) at the Ivory Room Hotel Atria, Thursday (13/6/2019).
He added that the open unemployment rate for Malang City tends to be contributed by (graduates) of colleges who do not return to their regions and settle and do activities in Malang City. The existence of the creative economy, especially the startup community and/or game developers According to him, it is capable of accommodating scholars from various disciplines.
“Because we are talking about applications, we are talking about game it's not just talk IT but there is also the involvement of psychological aspects, management aspects, art aspects and others so that in the future the creative economy sector in the field of applications and games in Malang City can become an ideal reference," explained Loli.
In this regard, Bekraf (Creative Economy Agency) through the Deputy of Infrastructure has one of the leading programs, namely the Independent Assessment of Creative Regency/City of Indonesia (PMK3I). PMK3I activities are activities carried out to help regencies/cities throughout Indonesia to recognize the potential of the Creative Economy in their regions as a driving force for the economy of the regency/city.
The main objective of this program is for the Regional Government in Indonesia to be able to recognize the potential of the superior Creative Economy in their region so that they can network with creative actors in other geographic nodes and sub-sector nodes. The assessment process involves four actors, namely Academics, Business, Community, Regional Government and five creative economy chain processes of creation, production, distribution, consumption and conservation.
It is recorded that there are 347 regencies/cities that have joined as creative cities/regencies. Then only 55 regencies/cities were selected that passed the random test, and 10 regencies/cities were selected to be nominated in the final assessment determination in Jakarta on June 18, 2019.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, said that the commitment to building a creative economy has been explicitly stated in one of Malang City's missions and has been covered by regional regulations.
"This shows our seriousness (Malang City Government) in mainstreaming the creative economy sector as the backbone of regional development. Therefore, the trust to make Malang City a leading region will certainly be a trigger and a driver to continue to strengthen the growth of the creative economy sector and especially the potential of game and application players," he explained.
Sutiaji is confident in the community and the perpetrators game developers in Malang City which is growing and developing fertilely, will be one of the solutions to reduce the number of open unemployment in Malang City. (hms/yon)
