Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – For the umpteenth time, a fire broke out at the Supit Urang Final Disposal Site (TPA) located in Mulyorejo Village, Sukun District, Malang City, on Thursday (20/06/2019) night. The fire that burned the pile of garbage was relatively small in scale and was quickly extinguished.
The next day, Friday (21/06/2019), the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, went directly to review the Supit Urang TPA and confirmed with the relevant parties. As a result, the trigger for the fire was because the TPA area began to over capacity and from piles of rubbish that emit methane gas which causes sparks that trigger fires.
Every day, the amount of waste dumped at the Supit Urang TPA reaches 500 to 600 tons per day, resulting in piles of waste starting to become over capacity and prone to fires caused by methane gas.
Referring to the incident, the bespectacled man plans to immediately expand the land, because the waste sent to the Supit Urang TPA every day is quite high. The bespectacled man also appealed to utilize various waste into useful items.
"Concretely, by holding various trainings based on waste or recycled materials. In addition, the community is also urged to reduce the intensity of disposal and not to litter. From these various efforts, the capacity of waste in this TPA is reduced and does not cause new problems later," said Sutiaji.
The Mayor of Malang will also collaborate with third parties through mutually beneficial cooperation, both from within and outside the country. On the other hand, the Malang City Government has also taken steps so that the cleaning staff can work more optimally. (say/yon)
