Malang (malangkota.go.id) – Currently, most areas in East Java including Malang City have entered the dry season. During the dry season, the southeast monsoon blows, bringing air masses from the Australian continent that are cold and dry.
In general, the weather conditions in East Java are hot and dry during the day, and cold at night until morning. The term in Javanese for this condition is bed.
The statement was delivered by Acting Head of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Class I Juanda Surabaya Meteorology Station, Rofiq Isa Mansur, Friday (28/06/2019). According to him, the cold temperature during the dry season occurs because currently the dry season is clear or there is no cloud cover. "The solar radiation received by the earth will be re-emitted into space at night," he added.
Regarding this, Rofiq explained that because there is no cloud cover, the energy will be transmitted massively into space which results in the temperature on earth becoming cold. "This condition is normal during the dry season," he explained.
Based on BMKG monitoring, there needs to be vigilance against the potential for increased wind speeds in the East Java region due to the presence of a low pressure area in the western Pacific Ocean and a high pressure area in the Australian continent. "Along with this, we also need to be aware of the potential for increased sea wave heights in the waters of East Java," he said.
During the dry season, Rofiq said there are also strong winds that blow locally in the Pasuruan and Probolinggo areas, which are usually called Gending winds. "BMKG Juanda appeals to the people of East Java to maintain their health, due to the difference in temperature during the day and night," he appealed.
"For coastal communities and sea transportation users, they are expected to be more aware of the potential for high waves. Like fishermen, for example, if the weather is not good, they should avoid or not sail to fish first to avoid unwanted things," he concluded. (say/yon)
