Prevent Dengue Fever, UMM Students Mix Natural Mosquito Repellent Spray

Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – The high number of dengue fever sufferers in this area prompted a group of students to create a natural mosquito repellent spray. It was the students of the Real Work Lecture (KKN) group 10 of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) who concocted spray mosquito repellent made from natural and environmentally friendly ingredients.

UMM KKN 10 students mix spray for residents to prevent them from contracting dengue fever.

“Our idea is to make spray This natural mosquito repellent is to find a solution so that people do not always depend on lotion and spray "Mosquito repellent factory," explained Dinda Muni Nurhandini, a member of the Health Division of KKN 10 UMM.

The factory spray, he said, is known to contain many chemical substances that are quite dangerous to health, including the risk of causing respiratory problems. "In long-term use, it will have bad consequences," Dinda added.

This spray was created as a solution for people who are allergic and sensitive to... lotion anti mosquito. This spray is considered natural, because it utilizes the potential of citrus cultivation in the KKN location which has not been utilized properly.

"Fogging and the 3M plus program are also not effective enough to reduce the spread of this deadly disease," said Dinda Muji, the originator of the idea.

The ingredients to make this spray consist of lemongrass, orange peel and cloves. Lemongrass is proven to repel mosquitoes. While the aroma of orange peel is not liked by mosquitoes because it contains limonene compounds in it. Also, clove flowers are proven to have bioactive compounds against insects.

"All the ingredients are easy to get and affordable, so that residents can mix it themselves later, if they already know the process," said Refa Maulana as the coordinator of the Health and Environment Division.

The making of this spray is one of the work programs of the health and environment division of the UMM KKN 10 group. Atik as the Head of the Posyandu at the UMM KKN 10 location appreciated the innovative steps of this UMM student group.

According to her, this product has the potential to become a superior product of her village. "We are grateful for the valuable findings of UMM students in our village, and hopefully it can be useful for all residents," said Atik. (umm/say/yon)
