The award was presented at the 2019 Child-Friendly Regency/City awards night held by the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) at the Four Points Hotel, Makassar, Tuesday (23/7/2019).

Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji said that efforts to realize Malang as a Child-Friendly City continue to be pursued through the Malang City Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control and Family Planning Service (DP3AP2KB) by improving facilities for children so that they get their rights.

"This is a form of government commitment in fulfilling children's rights starting from education, health, play facilities and various accesses to support children's rights," said Sutiaji, Wednesday (24/7/2019).

In 2020, the Mayor of Malang is targeting that Malang City can move up one level, namely the Child-Friendly City in the Nindya category. "We continue to improve achievements in this field. If this year we succeed in maintaining the middle predicate, then in the future we can move up to the Nindya predicate and move up to the main level and finally become a Child-Friendly City/Regency," he explained.

For information, the Ministry of PPPA annually gives awards to child-friendly cities/districts. The Child-Friendly City/District Award consists of five predicates, namely Pratama, Madya, Nindya, Utama, and the highest achievement is Child-Friendly City/District. Until now, there has been no city/district in Indonesia that has won the highest award in this field.

This year, 135 cities/regencies in Indonesia received the Pratama category of Child-Friendly City, 86 cities/regencies received the Madya category and 23 cities/regencies received the Nindya category. The Utama category was successfully held by three regions, namely Surabaya, Denpasar and Surakarta.

Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Yohana Susana Yembise, said that the award is a form of the state's commitment to guarantee child protection. "Including the obligation of local governments in implementing child protection programs," said Minister Yohana. (hms/yon)
