Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – The National Convention of the Indonesian Association for the Development of Social Sciences (HIPIIS) was held at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Wednesday (07/08/2019). The General Chairperson of the HIPIIS central management, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, said that the theme raised, namely 'Contribution of Social Sciences in the Development of Human Resources for the Progress of the Nation', was deliberately synchronized with the government program under the leadership of President Joko Widodo.

"I think this is a good momentum, while infrastructure development is underway. We (HIPIIS) should also immediately provide input on the developments that have occurred. And the developments that will occur with the infrastructure development that can be said to be massive in the first period of Mr. Jokowi's leadership," said Muhadjir who is also the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture at the UMM Dome hall.
He added, of course, the development of human resources expected in the second era of President Joko Widodo's government is in the context of how to optimize, capitalize, multiply, and multiply the benefits of existing infrastructure. Because infrastructure is basically just a prerequisite for development. As for real development, when it has touched and handled the humans themselves.
"Therefore, we can say that infrastructure development is a prerequisite for real development. Like prayer, infrastructure is just ablution, just covering one's private parts, but not the prayer itself. And the prayer is when building human resources itself," said Muhadjir in front of invited guests, namely the HIPIIS administrators from 13 regions in Indonesia, social science (IPS) teachers throughout Malang Raya, and the UMM academic community.
The focus of human resource development, according to Muhadjir, is at a greater stake. Greater than infrastructure development itself. Because building humans cannot be 'harvested' in a short time. But, maybe it can only be harvested in one or two decades.
"Of course, this development will be a problem when the development of human resources is awaited without any feedback from what we do," explained Muhadjir.
Thus, Muhadjir, who is also the deputy chairman of the UMM Daily Advisory Board, hopes that the convention held can really provide intensive input, criticism, and constructive suggestions for the Indonesian people, especially input for the second period of the Working Cabinet so that it can really be in line with our national ideals. Namely, creating a just and prosperous society, in accordance with the ideals of our independence," he said. (say/yon)
