Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Malang City Government received a working visit from Sukabumi City Government, West Java Province, Wednesday (18/9/2019). The visit from Sukabumi City Government was led directly by Sukabumi Mayor H. Achmad Fachmi, S.Ag., MMPd was received by Deputy Mayor of Malang Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko and Regional Secretary of Malang City Drs. Wasto, SH, MH in the Meeting Room of Malang City Hall.

The Mayor of Sukabumi on this occasion was accompanied by the Assistant to the Government of the Sukabumi City Regional Secretariat Drs. H. Andri Setiawan and the village heads throughout Sukabumi City. This visit was in order to find out about waste management in Malang City.
In his speech, the Deputy Mayor of Malang revealed that in order to realize an environmentally aware Malang City, it will cover many aspects that encompass it, especially how to take steps to overcome the waste problem which currently reaches approximately 600 tons per day.
Therefore, in managing waste, legal certainty, clarity of responsibility and authority of the local government are needed. This is the basis for the issuance of Regional Regulation no. 10 of 2010 concerning Waste Management in Malang City.
"Along with this, Malang City continues to be committed to improving the quality of environmentally friendly waste management, including through the establishment of the Malang Waste Bank, environmental cadres, and various training at the Supit Urang TPST, such as composting and craft products, one of which is through the 4R system," explained Sofyan Edi.
4R namely reduced or reduce, reuse or reuse, recycle or recycle, replace or replacing and utilizing methane gas at the Supit Urang TPST which has been enjoyed by 408 families of local residents as a substitute for fuel, which is currently only utilizing around 5 percent of its potential.
The Deputy Mayor also conveyed the ideals of Malang City in realizing its predicate as a City of Education, City of Tourism, and City of Industry. Over time, these ideals began to be realized thanks to the support of the large number of student human resources in Malang City.
"In terms of realizing an industrial city with a creative economy base, we continue to strive to collaborate on existing potential, starting from all universities, business actors, to community leaders in Malang City," added Bung Edi, the nickname of the Deputy Mayor of Malang City.
Meanwhile, Sukabumi Mayor H. Achmad Fachmi expressed his gratitude to the Malang City Government for this study visit. Achmad Fahmi also expressed his hope that after returning from this study visit, the Sukabumi City Government can learn from the waste management efforts that have been presented by the Malang City Government.
"It would be embarrassing if after returning from Malang City, we who have brought a large group including the village heads still cannot implement Malang's uniqueness in its waste management. Therefore, let us work together to realize our goals by carrying out maximum coordination," he said.
