Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The increasing number of train users passing through Malang City is the reason for PT KAI to expand or develop Malang Train Station. This new station is located on Jl Panglima Sudirman and will be connected to Kota Baru Station on Jl. Trunojoyo.

The first phase of the station construction with various supporting facilities will stand on an area of 3.000 square meters with a budget of around Rp54 billion. For the second phase, it will also be built on an area of approximately 3.000 square meters and the budget will adjust to the needs and other facilities.
Corporate Deputy Director of Existing Business Development PT KAI, Rochsjid Budiantoro after laying the first stone at the Groundbreaking ceremony for the Development of Malang Railway Station Phase I, Tuesday (24/09/2019) said that the construction of this station carries the theme of local wisdom.
"This two-story building model will be shaped like a mountain that connects Malang Regency and Batu City, and will resemble a sleeping beauty," he said.
With the addition of this new facility, Rochsjid explained, it is targeted to continue to increase users of train transportation significantly. In 2018, train service users from this city (Malang) reached 1.787.286 passengers and until August 2019, 533.409 passengers were recorded. "This achievement is supported by tourists and Malang City as a City of Education," he added.
Currently, Rochsjid said from Malang Station there are 21 train trips and 11 of them are long-distance trips to several big cities. "To further improve services, the number of tourist visits and boost the community's economy. In the future, PT KAI plans to add a number of more lines," he said.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, who was also present and laid the first stone, said that the construction of this new station answers one of the public's concerns regarding the traffic jams that have been occurring in front of Kota Baru Station.
"With the presence of this new station, it will reduce traffic congestion, and because Jl Panglima Sudirman is a national road, the route will be rearranged," he continued.
In addition, the construction of this new station will also further boost the number of tourist visits to Malang City, and further strengthen the city's label as a Heritage City. "Like from the Kayu Tangan area or Jl. Basuki Rachmad will later connect to the Tugu square and to the station," he concluded. (say/yon)
