Class IIA Malang Women's Prison Produces 32 Ustazah

Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Of the 87 inmates who are also students at the An-Nisa Islamic Boarding School in Sukun Malang Class IIA Women's Prison, 53 people took part in the selection to become Al-Quran teachers. In this program, the prison collaborated with the Ummi Foundation as the institution that selects and provides certification.

Head of Class IIA Sukun Women's Prison, Malang City, Ika Yusanti symbolically handed over certificates to inmates who were confirmed as Al-Quran teachers.

Of the 53 participants, after going through several stages of strict selection, finally 32 students were declared to have met the passing standards and were entitled to hold and be confirmed as Al-Qur'an teachers, Wednesday (20/11/2019).

Head of Sukun Class IIA Women's Prison, Ika Yusanti, admitted that she was proud of all this, because the 32 students of the first batch had been able to transform.

"The inmates who now have the name or title ustazah can read the Koran fluently, both in tartil and in terms of tajwid," said the woman wearing the hijab.

In addition, Ika said that the inmates had also memorized a number of letters in the Qur'an. When retested before being confirmed, they also proved their quality and were indeed worthy of holding the title of ustazah or professional Qur'an teacher.

"Later, in addition to being able to teach, these certified students can also become memorizers of the Qur'an or hafidz," continued Ika.

By appointing 32 inmates as Al-Quran teachers, he explained, this will be a provision for them after they leave prison.

"They will no longer be looked down upon when they return to society even though they are former convicts, and will instead become role models," said Ika.

The friendly woman also said that the program to produce faithful and pious inmates is one of the government's mandates to correctional institutions. (say/yon)
