Ahead of Christmas and New Year, BI Malang Prepares IDR 1,89 Trillion in Cash

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Bank Indonesia (BI) has prepared Rp105,0 trillion in cash to meet the needs of people throughout Indonesia ahead of Christmas and the end of 2019. To that end, BI has provided 1414 money exchange service points throughout the territory of the Republic of Indonesia including in the 3T (Frontier, Outermost, and Remote) areas until December 31, 2019.

Head of the Payment System Team, Rupiah Money Management and BI Malang Administration Services, Rini Mustikaningsih, gave a press statement regarding various preparations by BI Malang ahead of Christmas and New Year.

For the working area of ​​the BI Malang Representative Office which includes Malang City & Regency, Batu City, Probolinggo City & Regency, and Pasuruan City & Regency, BI has prepared a total cash of around IDR 1,89 trillion.

Ahead of Christmas and New Year 2020, Bank Indonesia estimates that there will be an increase in the need for cash (paper and metal money), in accordance with seasonal patterns.

Specifically for the Christmas and end of 2019 period, BI estimates that the need for cash nationally will increase to Rp105,0 trillion or an increase of 7,2% compared to the previous year. Consisting of Large Denomination Money (UPB) and Small Denomination Money (UPK) of Rp100,7 trillion and Rp4,3 trillion respectively.

These are some of the things conveyed by the Head of the Payment System Team, Rupiah Money Management and BI Malang Administrative Services, Rini Mustikaningsih, Friday (20/12/2019).

He said that in the BI Malang work area, the amount of cash prepared increased by around IDR 313 billion or around 19,8 percent compared to the same period in 2018.

During the Christmas and end of year 2019 period, BI Malang provided UPB and UPK of Rp1,87 trillion and Rp18,79 billion respectively.

"Bank Indonesia anticipates the need for cash and payment system transaction activities ahead of Christmas and the end of 2019 by preparing cash services, both through the Bank Indonesia office network and banking networks, and a smooth and well-maintained non-cash payment system infrastructure," said Rini.

The service, said the woman in the hijab, is a synergy between Bank Indonesia and banking to provide excellent service to the public ahead of the Christmas and End of Year 2019 period.

"The activity that takes the theme of Rupiah, Friend for All is carried out by extending exchange services through mobile cash and exchange points at activity centers and at bank branch offices," he explained.

For the exchange service for the public in the BI Malang work area during the Christmas and end of 2019 period, Rini explained, it was opened at 22 service points by nine commercial banks and 1 service point at the Bank Indonesia counter.

General public exchange services will start from 16 to 20 December 2019, while customer and internal banking services will be provided from 16 to 27 December 2019 for both large and small denominations.

To ensure that non-cash transaction activities run smoothly in supporting the community's economic activities, Rini explained, Bank Indonesia also continues to optimize the non-cash payment system organized by Bank Indonesia through the Bank Indonesia System. Real Time Gross Settlement (BI-RTGS) and the Bank Indonesia National Clearing System (SKNBI).

"Bank Indonesia has conducted testing of all infrastructure to ensure the implementation of payment system services safely, smoothly and efficiently, especially if there is an increase in transaction volume at the end of the year. Bank Indonesia also continues to coordinate with payment system participants, to ensure optimal payment system activities," he explained.

Bank Indonesia encourages the public to exchange their money at official exchange locations to prevent the risk of counterfeit money and to maintain the quality of the money.

"The public is urged to always pay attention to the Characteristics of the Authenticity of Rupiah by Looking, Touching and Holding it Up to the Light and Caring for Rupiah with 5 Don'ts (Don't Fold, Don't Cross Out, Don't Staple, Don't Crunch, Don't Wet)," concluded Rini. (say/yon)
