PT KAI Closes Illegal Crossings in Ciptomulyo Area

Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – In order to improve the safety of train travel and road users, Friday (28/02/2020) PT KAI Daops 8 Surabaya closed the illegal level crossing at km 52 + 3/4 of the road between Malang Kota Lama Station - Pakishaji Station or which is located in Ciptomulyo Village, Sukun District, Malang City.

This step was taken after previously on February 26, 2020, an accident occurred at this level crossing between KA 171 (Malioboro Ekspress train on the Malang-Yogyakarta route) and a motorbike with the number plate N 2519 ABR and its two riders.

Some of these things were conveyed by the Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daops 8 Surabaya Suprapto. He added that there are a total of 563 crossing points in the PT KAI Daop 8 area (Bojonegoro - Surabaya - Mojokerto - Sidoarjo - Bangil - Malang), namely 132 points guarded by KAI officers, 33 guarded by the private sector, 368 crossing points are not guarded, 30 have been made flyover or underpass.

PT KAI, Suprapto added, will continue to appeal and socialize to the public about traffic procedures at railroad crossings with highways to obey existing traffic signs.

Where the main safety tool when crossing railway crossings and highways is a traffic sign with a 'STOP' sign. "Stop, look right - left, if safe, you can continue your journey according to the crossing procedures stated in Law No.: 22 of 2019 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation," he appealed.

"We remind you that the gates and crossing guards are just security aids. The main safety tool is the traffic signs at the crossing," Suprapto concluded. (say/yon)
