Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The coordination meeting for the preparation of the 106th Anniversary of Malang City held in the Meeting Room of Malang City Hall, Monday (9/3/2020) was led by the Mayor of Malang Drs. H. Sutiaji accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Malang Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko and the Regional Secretary of Malang City Drs. Wasto, SH, MH.

The Mayor of Malang revealed that the 106th Anniversary of Malang City with the theme 'One for Malang' will bring the spirit of togetherness to jointly advance Malang City in various fields. This theme is the embodiment of the proud greeting of the Malang people with their one soul greeting.
"The progress of Malang City can only be achieved with togetherness and solidarity. All elements of society must unite if they want to progress," said the Mayor of Malang, Monday (9/3/2020).
Pentahelix collaboration depicting the ABCGM elements (Academics, Business/Entrepreneurs, Community/Public, Government/Government and Media) unite in synergy in one movement for the sake of Malang City. "There is no more me and you or my group-your group, there is only one interest for the beloved Malang City," he added.
Through this theme, it also becomes a hope that the values of togetherness, mutual cooperation, unity, and oneness are not torn apart. This condition must continue to be maintained together by relying on togetherness and returning to cultural values. "The spirit of re-raising the noble values of culture will also be the color of the 106th Anniversary of Malang City," added Sutiaji.
One form of bringing cultural values to life is the use of Malangan clothing or traditional clothing every Thursday in the Malang City Government environment. "That does not only apply to government office environments, I ask (employees) of shopping centers, hotels, restaurants, banking and the world of education to use the intended clothing. We want to further strengthen our cultural values through the use of traditional clothing, which of course ultimately the values contained therein will also be understood," he said.
To further enliven the 106th anniversary of Malang City which is commemorated every April 1, Sutiaji also appealed to offices, shopping centers (malls), hotels, restaurants, campuses/educational institutions, school environments and villages to put up lanterns.
As stated by the alumni of IAIN Malang, in the 80s, Malang City had a legendary healthy walk event that created a creation, namely the lantern walk. Even Malang City also has a lantern industry. "So let's revive the richness of that creation by installing lanterns in our respective environments," Sutiaji invited.
“There is a lot of cultural richness in Malang. People used to be very familiar with the term barikan. Our children today certainly don't understand that. Because we forget that culture, we increasingly marginalize it. Therefore, later on the day we will also try to design a cultural procession (tumpengan/slametan), at the final point we will sit together, pray and give thanks together while enjoying the sustenance given by Allah SWT, as barikan "It used to be a tradition in our villages," he explained.
