Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – Since the last few days, news has been circulating on messaging applications and social media that there are students at Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Malang who are suspected of having Covid-19. Regarding this, Saturday afternoon (14/03/2020) UB Malang provided an explanation and clarification.

Head of the UB Malang Covid-19 Task Force, Aurick Yudha Nagara confirmed that there was indeed one student from the Faculty of Engineering who was sick. The student is currently being monitored by medical personnel at Saiful Anwar Hospital Malang. According to Yudha, until Saturday afternoon the condition of the student who was suspected of having Covid-19 had started to improve, such as his oxygen usage had decreased and he was able to use his cellphone.
This UB student has not been confirmed as a Covid-19 suspect or not because he is still undergoing medical treatment at the hospital. The campus will wait for further results even though the student does not have a history or criteria related to the dangerous virus. Such as never having direct contact with a patient who tested positive for Covid-19 and going to a place infected with the virus.
UB Malang Rector, Nuhfil Hanani confirmed everything conveyed by Yudha as the Head of the Covid-19 Task Force at the institution he leads. He also appealed to all parties to remain calm and not to panic excessively. "Everything has been handled by medical personnel, especially in hospitals that are government referrals," he said.
Previously, there was news that the father of the student who was suspected of having Covid-19 died because he tested positive for the virus. However, the hospital that treated him at that time confirmed that his death was not due to Covid-19 and was declared negative.
"Likewise, the wife who is caring for or the mother of the Brawijaya University student who is suspected of having Covid-19 has also tested negative. Therefore, various activities on this campus have been temporarily suspended, such as lectures, non-academic student activities, and online exams," he said. (say/yon)
