TPID Malang City when monitoring the stock of basic necessities

This monitoring aims to ensure that the food stock in Malang City is safe, considering that there are several basic commodities that are starting to become scarce and experiencing quite significant price increases.

Head of Public Relations of Malang City Secretariat Muhammad Nur Widianto, S.Sos explained that several basic goods such as garlic, sugar, and eggs were observed to have experienced quite significant price increases. "Eggs were initially Rp22 thousand per kilo to Rp25 thousand, then garlic from Rp35 thousand per kilo to Rp50 thousand. Sugar from Rp11,5 thousand to Rp18 thousand," explained Widianto.

However, from the results of this monitoring it is known that the rice stock is still safe, even until the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Nur Widianto also said that this will be responded to by the Malang City Government through tighter monitoring in the next few weeks. If the situation requires it and goods become scarce, a market operation scheme will be held.

In the short term, market operations are prepared, especially for the needs of garlic and sugar. "This monitoring is carried out to directly find out the state of prices in the market considering the condition of Covid-19 preparedness, so that there is no panic buying also among the people of Malang City," he explained again.

On this occasion, the Mayor of Malang together with the staff and TPID of Malang City conducted direct monitoring at two locations, namely the Malang Branch of the Bulog Warehouse on Jl. Kolonel Sugiono and the Food Distributor on Jl. Kyai Tamin, Malang City.

Also conveyed at this activity was an appeal to limit the purchase of goods as stated in the Circular Letter (SE) of the Mayor of Malang No. 6 of 2020 concerning the Readiness of Business Actors in responding to Covid-19. "We appeal and strictly supervise this matter. Residents are limited in buying basic necessities. They are not allowed to buy as much as they want," he said. (hms/yon)
