Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government held a Coordination Meeting with Religious Figures in Malang City in the Meeting Room of Malang City Hall, Wednesday (20/5/2020). The Mayor of Malang Drs. H. Sutiaji led the coordination meeting which aimed to socialize the community to perform Eid prayers at their respective homes.

"We do not prohibit people from worshiping, but we appeal to people to worship at their respective homes during this (Covid-19) pandemic," said the Mayor of Malang.

In this regard, Sutiaji on this occasion also conveyed the policies of the central government and provincial government which emphasized that Eid prayers should be cancelled, especially in red zones.

"In accordance with the hierarchy and taking into account Law Number 23 of 2019 concerning regional government, as an integral part of the government as a whole, the Malang City Government is upright with this policy," he explained again.

Meanwhile, the participants of the coordination meeting, which included mosque administrators and representatives of religious organizations in Malang City, had two views in responding to the appeal.

First, following the government's direction to perform Eid prayers at home, and secondly, there are also those who express their hope to still be able to carry them out by implementing the Covid-19 protocol or asking the Mayor of Malang to issue a circular that strictly prohibits it.

Along with this, the Mayor of Malang stated firmly that the Malang City Government will not issue new regulations that are prohibitive in nature.

"We already have Perwal 17/2020 concerning PSBB Malang City. Related to activities and/or worship activities with congregations are permitted by strictly observing the Covid protocol, and the organizers are fully responsible for its implementation," explained the Mayor of Malang.

However, Sutiaji emphasized that Eid prayers are strongly advised not to be held and asked the public not to perform takbir together and to eliminate halalbihalal events that have the potential to gather large crowds in order to reduce the spread of Covid-19. (ts/cah/yon)
