Surabaya (malangkota.go.id) – The East Java Provincial Government continues to expand public services to handle the increasing number of Covid-19 patients. After previously increasing the capacity bed to fan in various referral hospitals, this time the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, directly reviewed the readiness of the East Java Covid-19 Emergency Hospital and asked that it be operated immediately.

With a total capacity currently reaching 200 people, and can be maximized to 500 people, the East Java Covid-19 Field Hospital established at the Health Service Research and Development Center Building on Jalan Indrapura no. 17 Surabaya is planned to be used for new positive confirmed patients who are categorized as mild. Governor Khofifah said that the capacity will continue to be maximized until it can reach 500 patients.
"What we want is that those in the referral hospital are those with severe conditions, those with mild and moderate conditions should be prepared in the field hospital like now. If the total with the extension of all the rooms, it can be up to 500 beds," said Governor Khofifah after directly reviewing the construction of the East Java Covid-19 Field Hospital, Friday (22/05/2020).
Governor Khofifah said that through such a division, the capacity of referral hospitals will be greater. And at the same time, more patients can be accommodated for treatment.
Although this Field Hospital is intended for mild Covid-19 patients, the completeness of medical equipment, security and safety of medical personnel remain a concern. Until today, four ventilators and thousands of PPE have been prepared in the Field Hospital to improve services to the community.
In fact, for health workers and their families, special rooms have also been prepared in the Field Hospital area. "We also prepare ICU, ventilators, and we also prepare the treatment facilities behind," added the number one person in the East Java Provincial Government.
Regarding the certainty of when the East Java Covid-19 Emergency Hospital will be opened, the Head of the East Java Covid-19 Curative Handling Task Force, Dr. Joni Wahyuhadi, who was also present to accompany Governor Khofifah, said that this Emergency Hospital is ready.
If there are patients later, he stated that the patients can be treated at the Emergency Hospital. "God willing, if there are patients tomorrow, it is ready," said Dr. Joni who also serves as the Director of Dr. Soetomo Hospital.
In accordance with the direction of Governor Khofifah, that this Emergency Hospital is intended for mild cases, Dr. Joni added that the plan is for this hospital to be attached to Dr. Soetomo Hospital and Unair University Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Emergency Hospital was built with two main bases, namely buildings and tents. One main building is under preparation while five tent-based rooms have been completed. The five tents will later be divided into several uses, namely, female patient tents, male patient tents, screening tents and tents for administrative purposes.
Meanwhile, for the availability of health workers, the East Java Provincial Government will collaborate with IDI (Indonesian Doctors Association) and PPNI (Indonesian National Nurses Association). Together with IDI and PPNI, recruitment of volunteers will be carried out to optimize medical services for patients.
