PSBB Not Extended, Malang Raya Prepares for New Normal

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The implementation of Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) implemented in Malang Raya (Malang City, Malang Regency and Batu City) since May 17, 2020 will end on May 30, 2020. From the results of the coordination meeting of the three regional heads in Malang Raya with the Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa held at the Malang Bakorwil Office, Wednesday (27/05/2020) it was agreed that the PSBB would not be extended.

East Java Governor, Khofifah Indar Parawansa led a coordination meeting to evaluate the PSBB with three regional heads of Malang Raya, the East Java Regional Police Chief, and the Commander of the V/Brawijaya Military Command at the Malang Bakorwil Office.

In the coordination meeting which was also attended by the Regional Police Chief and the Commander of V/Brawijaya Military Command, it was discovered that the implementation of PSBB so far in Malang Raya was considered quite effective. Public awareness in implementing health protocols has been good, the integration/synergy between various elements such as the TNI-Polri, volunteers and local governments in efforts to suppress the transmission of Covid-19 deserves appreciation.

After leading the meeting, Governor Khofifah said that Malang Raya has a strong commitment and capital to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission. The non-extension of the implementation of the PSBB has also gone through various considerations and opinions of a number of parties such as academics, religious leaders, community leaders and several related elements.

No less important, the woman wearing the hijab said that the implementation of PSBB in Malang Raya so far has at least fulfilled the six guidelines set by World Health Organization (WHO). As evidence that the spread of Covid-19 is under control, the current health capacity is still sufficient for testing, isolation in hospitals, tracing and quarantine of confirmed patients.

Apart from that, continued Khofifah, during the transition period before entering New Normal, according to WHO, it must also be ensured that at-risk populations must be protected, especially the elderly and individuals with comorbid diseases. In addition, the public is advised to always wear masks, maintain distance and implement health protocols. Finally, the risk of spreading new cases is minimized and the community is also actively involved in fighting the spread of Covid-19. (say/yon)
