Deputy Mayor Becomes Keynote Speaker for Webinar on National Children's Day

Such as the right to a decent life, adequate education, the right to care, and so on. In addition to parents, various components of the nation must have concern and participate in fulfilling these children's rights, including the government and the private sector.

That was what was emphasized by the Deputy Mayor of Malang, Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko when he became one of the... keynote speaker webinar with the theme 'Child-Friendly Malang, Child-Friendly Church' in the Office of the Deputy Mayor of Malang, Thursday (23/7/2020). In the webinar in the context of National Children's Day, attended by a number of parties, such as from Kanjuruhan University Malang and the Malang Diocese, the man who is often called Bung Edi invited various parties to also pay attention to and fulfill children's rights.

Regarding the fulfillment of children's rights, the bespectacled man said that the Malang City Government has taken various concrete steps, such as the Children's Musrenbang, issuing a number of policies that favor children to the provision of public facilities for children. "From these various efforts, Malang City is also labeled a Child-Friendly City, and enters the middle criteria," added Bung Edi, as the Deputy Mayor of Malang is often called.

But he also did not deny that there was violence or some cases experienced by children. However, what has happened will be used as a material for correction and evaluation, so that similar incidents do not happen again. "Therefore, this is where the need and need for concern from various parties, so that children feel safe and comfortable wherever they are," he said.

Furthermore, Mr. Edi said that children's health and welfare continue to be improved to ensure a livable growth and development environment. Examples of programs and efforts that have been running include free immunization at the elementary school level, Handling of Malnutrition, HIV/AIDS Socialization, Food and Nutrition Alert System, the Loving Mother Movement (GSI), Ting Tong Innovation, Free Dental and Oral Health Checks for Elementary School Children.

"In addition, there is also the Establishment of Alert Villages, Healthy City Forums (City & Village Levels), Waste Banks up to the RT/RW level, Socialization and Development of Smoke-Free Areas and Healthy School Canteens," he explained.

Education on the use of free time and cultural activities for children also continues to be improved. "Some programs and efforts that have been running include the children's village, providing additional food for school children, libraries, child-friendly schools, and the Lapo Bra Innovation (Braille Corner Service) to provide access to reading books for children with disabilities (TOP 25 Public Service Innovations 2019). Apart from that, there are also school safety zones, coaching and scholarships, and cultural coaching," concluded Bung Edi. (say/yon)
