Sutiaji held a meeting with several religious and community leaders to align perceptions about the real dangers of Covid-19 and its chain of transmission. The activity entitled Socialization of the Embalming of Bodies Indicated as Covid was held in the Meeting Room of Malang City Hall, Tuesday (11/08/2020).

The meeting between the Mayor of Malang and a number of religious leaders and leaders of community organizations throughout Malang City lasted for more than two hours, and the Mayor of Malang gave a presentation on the dangers of Covid-19.

Sutiaji emphasized that until now there has been no Covid-19 vaccine that has been proven to cure infected patients. Although several vaccines have been found and are in the process of being tested on volunteers, however, in order to prevent transmission of the virus between residents, public discipline and awareness are needed in implementing health protocols.

In front of the community leaders and religious leaders, Sutiaji also conveyed the low level of community involvement in the process of preventing Covid-19. According to him, some community members are still ignorant and indifferent to the implementation of health protocols, including during the process of embalming bodies. probable or positive for Covid-19.

Therefore, Sutiaji said that all religious leaders and mass organizations should play a more active role in providing understanding and knowledge about the dangers of Covid-19 to the community and entrust the process of embalming and burying Covid-19 bodies to a team of experts who continue to monitor. "The appointed officers have met various criteria, from health protocols to how to bury bodies according to religious rules," he said.

Furthermore, Sutiaji said that perpetrators of the fight over Covid-19 bodies could be subject to criminal sanctions. This refers to Presidential Instruction Number 6 of 2020 concerning Improving Discipline and Enforcement of Health Protocol Discipline in the Prevention and Control of Covid-19. "From this incident, the law will be put forward and let the current law enforcers work," he explained.

Since this is the first time this has happened, after this incident the Malang City Government will draft a new regulation in the form of a revision to Perwal No. 20 of 2020. "In this regulation, of course it will be based on Presidential Instruction Number 6 of 2020, so that the rules and sanctions for violators of health protocols are clearer," concluded Sutiaji.
