Efforts to Boost Artist Productivity Amidst the Pandemic

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – While still implementing health protocols, the Malang City Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) held a traditional arts and culture performance in the yard of the Mpu Purwa Museum, Malang City, Wednesday (19/08/2020). The event titled Museum Utilization 'Guyon Bareng di Museum' presented artists who were mostly young people. This arts and culture event was one of the first performances held openly after there had been almost no arts and culture performances for the past five months.

After watching the arts and culture performance, the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji (wearing a hat) viewed a collection of historical objects at the Mpu Purwa Museum.

Currently, Malang City is in the orange zone category and is targeted to be in the yellow zone or even the green zone, so that various activities are given permission and can return to normal. In addition to keeping these artists productive and producing works of art, on the other hand, it is also so that the economy that has been stalled can start to move considering that during the Covid-19 outbreak, artists are also a group of people who are affected.

After the art and culture performance, the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, said that in the future, his party will continue to strive to provide a space for expression for these art and culture actors, especially in public areas such as the city square, tourist villages and history museums like this time. Thus, visitors or art and culture enthusiasts will not only get entertainment but can also learn history.

During the pandemic, art performances will be held in open spaces and the number of people allowed to attend the location should not exceed 50 people. However, the Mayor of Malang said that every art and culture performance will be broadcast live through several social media such as this event which was broadcast live through the P&K TV channel. "So that the longing of artists and art and culture lovers can be cured when there is a performance like this," he explained.

By starting to grant permits for a number of community activities such as cultural arts performances, tourism services, sports facilities, hotels, restaurants and others, it is one of the efforts of the Malang City Government to realize the economic growth target of up to four percent in December.

"However, all remain under the supervision of the Covid-19 Task Force to ensure strict implementation of health protocols so that it can also suppress the spread of Covid-19," concluded Sutiaji. (say/yon)
