Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – In the near future, the Malang City Government will install 551 free wifi networks to support student learning during the Covid-19 pandemic like now. The free internet network is planned to be installed in each RW hall with a priority scale. This program is also to help students and parents who have difficulty buying data quotas.

These are some of the things conveyed by the Assistant for Economy and Development of the Malang City Regional Secretariat, Ir. Diah Ayu Kusuma Dewi, MT when she was one of the speakers in an online interactive dialogue on Radio City Guide Malang City, Wednesday (02/09/2020). The woman in the hijab said that these government facilities should be maintained and utilized as well as possible.
"For the technicalities, it will be implemented by the Communication and Information Service together with related parties. Including how big the network needs and strength are in each place. Various parties, such as members of the TP PKK, RT/RW heads and local youth organizations must participate in maintaining and caring for the facilities and infrastructure of the free internet network," said Diah.
This Malang City Government program also received appreciation from a member of Commission D of the Malang City DPRD, H. Abdurrahman who was also a resource person in the discussion. However, the bespectacled man suggested that the program be right on target and must be closely monitored. "Make sure the internet is only used by students, and one way to do this is by using a special password, so that not everyone can access it," he added.
The PKB politician added, if it is possible and considered more effective, the assistance can be in the form of data quota. "Thus, this assistance or program is more targeted and can be used directly by the recipients. But what is certain is that whatever the realization of this program is, the Malang City DPRD, especially Commission D, will support it," explained Abdurrahman.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Secretary General of the Indonesian Sociology Association for the Malang Region, Faizal Kurniawan, S.Pd., M.Si who was also a resource person for the discussion, said that he basically strongly supports this Malang City Government program. "Socialization of the program should be carried out as optimally as possible, so that the community understands and can help maintain it properly," he explained.
Faizal also suggested that in every RW building or other place where wifi will be installed, reading books for students should be added. This is also to increase students' interest in reading and strengthen student literacy. "Hopefully this program can be realized optimally, so that it can help students when implementing online learning like now," he concluded. (say/yon)
