East Java Tightens Health Protocols

Malang (malangkota.go.id) – East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa asked the ranks of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) to tighten the implementation of health protocols (prokes). This follows after East Java returned to the Covid-19 red zone contributed by Situbondo, Jember, Jombang, and Batu City in the past few days.

The instruction was delivered by Khofifah while leading a coordination meeting on handling Covid-19 at the office of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) on Jalan Kawi, Malang City, Saturday (05/12/2020). In addition to re-intensifying the justice operation, every regional head should be ordered to be more massive in controlling and minimizing Covid-19 cases.

"This is also an effort to anticipate the approaching Christmas and New Year holidays which may result in high levels of activity for residents in spending their holidays which could ultimately trigger new clusters. We do not want that to happen, and therefore, it must be anticipated as early as possible," added the woman in the hijab.

According to Khofifah, the 3M movement which includes always wearing a mask, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap is claimed to be one of the effective ways to suppress Covid-19 cases. This is because East Java has successfully suppressed Covid-19 cases and a number of areas that were in the orange zone moved to the yellow zone and even to the green zone.

Khofifah further said that the regents/mayors together with the TNI-Polri and various elements of society, currently have to work hard again. On the other hand, the community must have a high awareness of the dangers of this pandemic so that Covid-19 cases do not continue to increase.

"Those who are proven to have violated health protocols should also be given strict sanctions considering that Covid-19 cases continue to increase, a number of referral hospitals and quarantine places are starting to fill up," he stressed.

This was agreed by the Deputy Mayor of Malang, Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko who also attended the coordination meeting. According to him, currently Malang City is in the orange zone and must not enter the red zone. "We are trying our best, and continue to intensify proactive and preventive movements so that Covid-19 cases can continue to be suppressed," he said. (say/ram/yon)
