Klojen (MC) – The year 2020 became a reference for alertness for the ranks of the Malang City Police, where theft cases dominated a number of other cases, especially motorcycle theft (curanmor). Curanmor cases reached 370 cases, aggravated theft 53 cases and theft with violence as many as 8 cases. The trend of increasing curanmor increased from September to December 2020.

This was conveyed by the Malang City Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Leonardus Simarmata during the year-end release on performance achievements and disclosure of a number of cases at the Malang City Police Headquarters yard, Tuesday (29/12/2020). He admitted that he had conducted monitoring and evaluation to suppress motorcycle theft cases in 2021 and later there would be no tolerance for motorcycle theft perpetrators.
In addition to increasing security and routine patrols, Kapolresta Leonardus said that officers will take firm, measured action or shoot on sight. Residents are also urged to be more vigilant by locking their motorbikes when parking, not parking in random places or in deserted places and in places that are not visible to the eye.
From the results of the disclosure, most of the locations targeted by the perpetrators of motorcycle theft are housing and offices. "However, it is not possible that it will spread further, such as in educational environments or other places. Therefore, the community must increase their vigilance," he said.
"These cases are one of our priorities in 2021, we will take firm and measured action against perpetrators of motorcycle theft that we still find later in 2021. From the evaluation results, we see a fairly high trend in the final semester of 2020. These motorcycle theft cases are quite high and we continue to appeal to the public, especially those in Malang City, to remain vigilant," he continued.
In this year-end release, a number of other cases were also revealed, totaling 1.251 cases, such as drugs, anarchist demonstrations, fraud, embezzlement and murder. The police have confiscated and secured thousands of pieces of evidence of crimes from the cases revealed. (say/yon)
