Malang (malangkota.go.id) – There are many ways to appreciate the services of the nation's heroes that can be done by the younger generation and the community in general. One of them is by cleaning the graves and planting trees in the cemetery areas of the heroes. Because without the heroes, it would be impossible for the Indonesian people to feel and enjoy the air of independence like today.

At least that was the message conveyed by the Deputy Mayor of Malang, Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko after attending the happy grave cleaning event in Mergosono Village, Wednesday (03/02/2021). At the special graves of the heroes who died in achieving independence, tree planting was also carried out together with a number of members of youth organizations that are members of the Association of Sons and Daughters of the Army Family (HIPAKAD), the Indonesian Retired Sons and Daughters Communication Forum (FKPPI), and Defenders of the Homeland (PETA).
Also accompanying the Deputy Mayor of Malang, Commander of Kodim 0833 Malang City, Lieutenant Colonel Arm Ferdian Primadona who symbolically also started the planting of 100 trees at the event. The man who is often called Bung Edi said that during the rainy season like now it is very appropriate to carry out any planting activities because the plants are likely to survive.
"With our environment becoming greener, it will automatically improve the air quality, thus making the community healthier," he said.
By involving members of this youth organization, this also becomes character education material for young people to love heroes and the environment more.
No less important, added the friendly man, with the hobby and or culture of planting trees, it will also help suppress, and even prevent natural disasters, such as floods and landslides. Bung Edi also invited all elements of society to participate in cultivating planting trees so that the natural ecosystem will be better.
A similar statement was also delivered by the Commander of Kodim 0833 Malang City, Lieutenant Colonel Arm Ferdian Primadona. According to him, protecting the environment is very important, because it will also affect people's lifestyles and health. "This activity is very positive, because in addition to being a form of appreciation for the services of the heroes, it will also have a positive impact on the community by planting 100 trees in the cemetery area," he said.
