Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – Starting February 10, 2021, train travel times will be shorter and some will experience changes in departure schedules. This is because KAI uses the 2021 Train Travel Chart (Gapeka) which has been stipulated through the Decree of the Minister of Transportation Number KP 1385 of 2020 concerning the Determination of the 2021 Train Travel Chart and KP 1362 of 2020 concerning the Determination of Railway Service Routes on the 2021 Train Travel Chart.

"The determination of Gapeka 2021 is to replace Gapeka 2019 which was previously used by KAI. One of the benefits that customers can feel on Gapeka 2021 is the efficiency of travel time. An example is the Malabar train from Malang Station to Bandung Station which experienced a reduction in travel time of 150 minutes, from the previous 16 hours 16 minutes to 13 hours 46 minutes," said Public Relations Manager of Daop 8 Surabaya Luqman Arif on Tuesday (09/02/2021).
He added that there were various factors behind the changes in Gapeka from 2019 to 2021. In Gapeka 2021, several routes passed by long-distance train journeys that were previously single have become double tracks, such as on the Mojokerto - Jombang route and the Tambak - Kebumen - Butuh route.
In addition, said Luqman, there is an increase in peak speeds on various routes in Daop 8 Surabaya. Such as the Wonokromo - Mojokerto route reaching 105 km / h from the previous 100 km / h, the Bangil - Malang Old City route reaching 70 km / h from the previous 60 km / h, the Malang Old City - Wlingi route reaching 80 km / h from the previous 60 km / h, and the Sidoarjo - Tarik route reaching 80 km / h from the previous 60 km / h.
With the implementation of Gapeka 2021, the travel time for passenger and freight trains will be shorter. "The number of passenger train trips in Daop 8 Surabaya accommodated in Gapeka 2021 is 132 train trips, an increase of 1,5% compared to Gapeka 2019 with 130 trips," added Luqman.
The implementation of Gapeka 2021 also serves to extend the relationship for several trains in Daop 8 Surabaya, such as the Mutiara Timur train where the previous relationship was Surabaya Gubeng – Ketapang PP, now it is Yogyakarta – Surabaya Gubeng – Ketapang PP.
Luqman explained that the public can now order tickets for departures on February 10, 2021 and onwards in stages on the KAI Access application, the kai.id website, and other online purchasing channels.
"We appeal to prospective train customers departing on February 10, 2021 and beyond to pay attention to the schedule listed on the ticket. The goal is so that customers do not miss the train because Gapeka 2021 has been implemented," he explained.
Double check the travel schedule because there are changes to the train departure schedule on Gapeka 2021 at Malang Station. For example, the Jayabaya train on the Malang – Surabaya Gubeng – Surabaya Pasar Turi – Semarang – Pasar Senen route, which was originally 11.55 WIB, starting February 10, its departure has changed to 11.50 WIB or 5 minutes ahead.
Train Travel Charts or Gapeka are guidelines for regulating the implementation of train travel which are depicted in the form of lines that show stations, time, distance, speed, and position of the train travel starting from departure, stopping, arriving, crossing, and overtaking, which are depicted graphically for controlling train travel.
"We hope that with the implementation of Gapeka 2021, train customers will increase because many improvements have been made such as shorter travel times, the addition of new routes, and others," concluded Luqman. (say/rika/ram)
