Malang City not only received an award plaque, but also received regional incentive funds. This award and incentive further make Malang City residents better in waste management. Because so far, waste has been a frightening specter in the middle of a big city.

Director General of Waste Management and Hazardous and Toxic Materials (PSLB3) Rosa Vivien Ratnawati, SH., M. Sc said that this activity was the peak of the 2021 National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN). KLHK has carried out various activities to manage existing waste so that it is useful. "In this case, a study was made on recycling plastic and paper waste so that Indonesia will not import anymore in the future," explained Rosa.

Rosa added that the waste study was a decision of three ministries, namely the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Ministry of Industry, and the Ministry of Trade. The point is to meet the needs of domestic raw materials so that there is no need to import.

"Because for the paper and plastic raw material industry, 50 percent is imported even though the raw material is sorted waste. This means that the waste in Indonesia is still not of sufficient quality for raw materials," said Rosa.

KLHK is tasked with creating a roadmap on waste materials that can meet the needs of domestic industry. Then a study of domestic plastic and paper is made to meet the needs of all of Indonesia. "The Ministry of Industry can build a recycling company and the Ministry of Trade can also reduce import quotas," said Rosa.

At the peak of this event, KLHK presented awards to representatives of local governments, including Central Java Province, Sidoarjo Regency, and Malang City. In addition, it was also presented to plastic and paper recycling associations, social entrepreneurs and scavengers who helped resolve waste by recycling and sorting waste.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Malang City Environmental Service Drs. Wahyu Setianto, MM expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry for the appreciation given to Malang City. "This award is an additional spirit for Malang City to be better in managing waste," he said. (cah/ram)
