Mayor Sutiaji Urges Residents Not to Buy Illegal Cigarettes

Starfruit, (malangkota.go.id) – Malang Mayor, Drs. H. Sutiaji appealed to the public not to buy illegal cigarette products. He conveyed this at a socialization event on the provisions of laws and regulations in the field of excise at the Savana Hotel, Tuesday (16/3/2021).

Socialization of eradicating illegal cigarettes in Malang City

He hopes that the presence of community leaders at this event can socialize the war against illegal cigarettes to other communities. The reason is that the existence of illegal cigarettes is very detrimental to the community because there is no excise. If it is legal, then the excise will be returned to the community in the form of development and other welfare.

"This is part of the war against the existence of illegal cigarettes. Therefore, by presenting community leaders, religious leaders, and also the general public, it is hoped that the objectives of the activity can be more effective," explained Sutiaji.

Moreover, the target of Malang City for cigarette excise is Rp38 billion. Therefore, if there are still many illegal cigarettes in Malang City, it will harm the community. Whereas the existence of excise in this case tax is very important for development. "Almost more than 80 percent of development in our country depends on taxes. One of them comes from excise," said Sutiaji.

This activity, he said, is very important to be carried out in order to provide education to the public in terms of making tax revenue a success. So far, there are still many cigarettes circulating on the market that are illegal cigarettes. By inviting the public to learn about the benefits of taxes, it is hoped that in the future there will be more awareness and obedience to pay taxes. (cah/ram)
