SDN Kota Lama 1's Thousand Tomatoes Program in the Adiwiyata Competition

Kedungkandang, (malangkota.go.id) – Being in a densely populated area does not reduce the creativity of SDN Kota Lama 1 Malang City to innovate. They utilize the discarded waste from Kebalen Market and build the Thousand Tomatoes icon. Deputy Mayor of Malang, Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko was interested in visiting the school and picking tomatoes after planting a pule tree.

The principal of SDN Kota Lama 1, Isnaeni, M. Pd said that currently the school already has a Thousand Tomatoes icon. According to him, Thousand Tomatoes is an abbreviation of a shady school for people to be obsessed with planting. "A Thousand Tomatoes is our school's innovation as one of the mainstays to be able to compete in the National Adiwiyata School competition," explained Isnaeni, Monday (22/3/2021).

The beginning of the Thousand Tomatoes program, he said, was to utilize the large amount of waste in Kebalen Market that was thrown away. This was due to the existence of schools that were close to the market and had to find a solution immediately. Finally, various innovations were made by planting tomatoes taken from seeds that were thrown away in the market.

"In addition, we also make fertilizer from chicken waste to various processed products with tomato as the raw material. Many products that we have made with tomato as the raw material, including tomato juice, tomato essence, tomato jelly, tomato sele," said Isnaeni.

With the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Malang, he said, it will increase the enthusiasm of all residents of SDN Kota Lama to innovate. Including also to improve the culture of planting and reminding the importance of reducing waste and utilizing it.

"This Thousand Tomatoes Program is an effort to provide lessons to all school residents on how to seed, maintain, process until it has a selling value," concluded Isnaeni. (cah/ram)
