Malang (malangkota.go.id) – In order to cultivate a reading culture in the community, the Public Library and Regional Archives Service (Dispussipda) of Malang City held a librarianship seminar on the role and challenges of librarians in cultivating a reading culture in the era of disruption at the Atria Hotel, Malang City, Tuesday (23/3/2021).

The Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji said that the library is a pillar and a vehicle for educating the nation's children. Their brain intelligence, intellectual intelligence, is also accompanied by spiritual intelligence. He also advised to play a role in encouraging the culture of reading in Malang City. In accordance with the mandate of Law Number 43 of 2007 concerning Libraries, that the culture of reading is carried out through families, educational units, and the community.
"You have been confirmed as one of the key administrators for how literacy in Malang City will be good in the future. I believe you will carry out your duties as well as possible, carry out the mandate," said Sutiaji after confirming the Management of the Indonesian Librarian Association (IPI) of Malang City for the 2021-2024 period.
Mayor Sutiaji also presented library accreditation certificates from the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia to six library institutions in Malang City, including the SD Anak Saleh Malang Library, SMPN 3 Malang Library, SMPN 9 Malang Library, SMPN 13 Malang Library, SMK Telkom Malang Library, and Malang State University Library.

"This will be one of our efforts and attempts to encourage Malang to become Malang Smart City, the goal of which is to realize a dignified Malang," said the Mayor of Malang.
Meanwhile, Acting Head of Dispussipda Malang City Suwarjana, SE., MM revealed that the participants of this librarianship seminar were not only attended by participants who attended in person who implemented strict health protocols, but also by participants online.
"Participants who participated in the live streaming came from the East Java region including Malang Raya, Pasuruan, Kediri, Sidoarjo, Surabaya, Jember, Pamekasan, and Tulungagung. Meanwhile, participants from outside East Java included Aceh, Bekasi, Indramayu, Tegal, Slawi and Boyolali," explained Suwarjana.
The seminar presented two speakers, namely the Secretary of the IPI Regional Management of East Java Province Sudjarwo, S.Sos., M.Si, Head of the UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang Library Mufid, S.Ag., SS, M. Hum, and moderator Setiawan, M. IP from the State University of Malang. (yon/ram)
