Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – Malang City as a city of education produces a very large number of graduates every year. The problem that arises is that not all of the graduates can be absorbed into the workforce. In addition, graduates' knowledge of work requirements, work agreements that can cause conflicts in industrial relations which ultimately result in termination of employment.

Based on BPS data in August 2020, the number of workers in Malang City was approximately 470.610, consisting of 425.368 working residents, and 45.242 unemployed people. From the unemployment prevention program that has been implemented by the government in collaboration with various elements, it turns out that it has not been able to completely overcome the unemployment problem.
This was conveyed by the Head of the PMPTSP Manpower Office, Erik Setyo Santoso, ST., MT at a job counseling and guidance event for job seekers at the Atria Hotel Malang, Thursday (25/03/2021). According to him, based on the evaluation results, there are several factors causing the high unemployment rate. Among them is the mismatch between the qualifications of job seekers and the job requirements needed. So it is necessary to adjust the curriculum or majors in vocational schools or universities with the needs of the business and industrial world.
"In addition, there is an imbalance in demand and supply, especially the low level of skills of job seekers as human resources. Moreover, with the Covid-19 pandemic which has caused a decrease in the absorption of labor in the business and industrial sectors due to the lack of investment climate. What also needs to be considered is the increase in the repatriation of Indonesian migrant workers," said Erik Setyo Santoso.
Therefore, Disnaker PMPTSP, strives to improve the knowledge and skills of human resources by holding counseling and job guidance for job seekers. So that it can create a workforce that is ready to use and understands the mechanisms of the world of work with its work agreements, has work skills, and a good work ethic. Job seekers are also motivated not to just wait for job vacancies but to become entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji said that actually the job does not need to be sought. In each person there are already instruments to rise and there you can see what can and should be done. The paradigm is no longer going to the office in the morning, working, then going home in the evening.
"However, we can work from home. The orientation is no longer working in a large institution, not having to be an employee. This is what we build together," said Sutiaji.
Many informal workers, who are sometimes not recorded, thus affecting the number of open unemployment figures even though they actually have businesses and even employ many people. Indeed, they do not work from the office because everything is controlled online with the sophistication of existing technology. This really supports the creative economy industry which is currently growing rapidly.
“If there is a desire, there must be courage. What defeats us is not other people, but ourselves because we feel incapable. I am sure that all of you have the ability, just develop it. You must be confident. Now there are many facilities that will certainly also help you to develop to create a business,” concluded Sutiaji.
Mayor Sujiaji also gave appreciation in the form of cash to several participants who had started businesses.
