Malang City Protects Children's Rights

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) - The Malang City Government through the P3AP2KB Social Service held a socialization activity for the provision of services for children who need special protection and require coordination at the district/city level, Thursday (08/04/2021).

Head of the Child Rights Fulfillment/Child Growth and Development Section of the P3AP2KB Social Service of Malang City, Luluk Khafifah together with the Moderator from the LPA of Malang City, Joko Nunang and resource persons in the Socialization of Service Provision for AMPK activities

The focus raised in this activity is related to the development of communication, information, and education of children who need special protection from the authority of the district/city. The goal is to realize Malang as a child-friendly city.

According to a resource person from the Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Service (DP3AK) of East Java Province, Hari Candra Novianto, children are the next generation and pillars of the nation that need to be protected because they are part of the present and the owners of the future. So as stated in Article 12-18 of Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection.

"Children should be protected from discrimination, exploitation, neglect, cruelty, violence, and abuse, injustice and other mistreatment. The local government is obliged and responsible to implement and support policies in the implementation of child protection," said Candra.

This is realized through regional efforts to build a child-friendly city. For this reason, strengthening the pentahelix strategy between the city government, business world, mass media, community institutions, and educational institutions is very important in realizing Malang as a child-friendly city. So that through this activity it is expected that it can be integrated into the entire program and implemented by cross-regional devices in building Malang City as a child-friendly city.

"However, what if there is a case of violence against women and children? There is a service mechanism for victims when a case occurs. The government together with related parties will provide assistance starting from the reporting process to rehabilitation. Because the principle of child protection is a shared responsibility, not just one party," explained Candra.

Socialization of Service Provision for AMPK

Meanwhile, the Patron of the Plato Surabaya Foundation and also the evaluator of child-friendly cities, Nanang Abdul Chanan, said that one of the indicators of a child-friendly city is how the city can fulfill, protect, and respect children's rights. Fulfillment of children's rights also includes how to handle children who need special protection (AMPK).

"Because providing services to children is our duty. Children have characteristics, children are prepared to become adults, the state in this case the city government must also be present in it," explained Nanang.

The provision of AMPK services starting from reporting, mitigation or future AMPK handling plans, and mapping are also important in the principles of developing child-friendly cities. AMPK can be classified into four categories, namely children in emergency situations such as refugees, children in conflict with the law, children in exploitation situations, and children of indigenous peoples and minority groups.
