Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – On the first day of the fasting month of Ramadan 1442 Hijri, the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, filled the activity by giving a sermon before the tarawih prayer at the Ibnu Sina Mosque on Jalan Veteran No. 8, Penanggungan Village, Klojen District, Malang City, Tuesday (13/4/2021).

He said that fasting is a mandatory worship for Muslims which has a meaning not only to refrain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset. But more than that, the real meaning is being able to restrain oneself and being able to control lust.
The Mayor of Malang expressed the meaning of saum in plain or linguistic terms, namely insaf. "A lucky person is a person who is able to restrain his desires, he is able to qanaah, he is able to be grateful for the blessings given by Allah SWT," he said.
The essence of fasting is to refrain from all the prohibitions of Allah SWT, and this is a difficult thing for humans to do. Because basically humans have lusts.
He added, in this month of Ramadan humans are schooled spiritually, the goal of which is to be able to restrain. Not only restraining hunger, but also lust, anger and other desires that lead to bad things. "The problem is whether we are able to do it or not. People who are able to restrain, be it lust, anger and so on, are all pious people," he said.
"Hopefully in this month of Ramadan our fasting will be accepted. May Allah SWT give strength to all of us. "So that in the future we will be the winners of a fight, namely fighting all desires," he concluded. (yon/ram)
